Prologue
The Crash
"My last chance? Ha! You fool. That was yours! C'mon, this is going to be a day the President will never forget."
Agent Joanna Dark overheard the whole conversation Trent Easton had with the President. She knew what to do. She raced up the stairs to the upper level of Air Force One, undisturbed by Secret Services as she was disguised as a flight attendant. When she reached the top of the stairs, she received a message on her communicator, so quiet that only she could hear it.
"The President's room is on this level, Joanna." Daniel Carrington's voice said on the other end of the line.
"Affirmed." Joanna whispered. She quickly found the President's Office and opened the door.
The President was a tall, african-american man with a deep voice. He was startled by Joanna coming in.
"Who are you, young lady?" he asked, pointing an accusing finger at her.
"Mr. President, you're in danger!" Joanna explained quickly, "Trent is trying to kidnap you!"
"Young lady, you can't make accusations like that without evidence. "the President said strictly, "I assume that you have some?"
"More than enough." Joanna reached into her backpack and took out a tiny microchip.
"This is a recording of a meeting between Trent and the other conspirators." she held the chip in her palm. An image appeared above it, as if there were a video screen on her hand. It showed three people around a table. A handsome blonde man stood standing face-to-face with Trent, while a woman, also blonde, sat cross-legged in a chair.
"The President turned down your request for the loan of the Pelagic II???" The blonde man shook a finger at Trent," Could it be you overestimated you influence over him?"
"NO!" Trent protested," Perhaps I underestimated his resolve, but we have a contingency plan ready to go, and we will move as soon as the Presidential entourage arrives at the Air Base. All I need from the President is a tissue sample."
That was all the President needed to see. Joanna closed her hand into a fist and put the chip back in her backpack.
"Evidence enough?" she asked.
"Seems...overwhelming..."the President seemed shocked that one of his own advisors would betray him," I'm in your hands. What do we do now?" Before Joanna could answer, there was a loud BANG that shook the whole plane.
"What the hell was that?!" The President exclaimed.
"I don't know..."Joanna heard gunfire outside, then said quickly "We have to get you to the escape pod. Follow me." she took out a gun and carefully opened the door. The President followed her down the stairs where they saw Secret Services fighting off...
"Trent's thugs! We've got to hurry!"
Joanna and the President raced across the plane, SS helping out however they could. As soon as the President reached the escape pod Jo looked outside and saw what looked like a space ship. It appeared as though it had attached a tube to the side of the plane. Immediately she reached for her communicator.
"Agent Dark to Elvis, can you hear me?" she said into the microphone.
"Loud and clear, Joanna." was the reply. Elvis was of an alien race called Maians. He was flying just outside of the plane, in case something happened.
"What the hell is that thing?"
"I can't tell from here, but it looks like a space craft. You better get it off the plane."
"How?"
"Looks like it's attached to one of the exits."
"Gotcha. Perfect Dark out." Jo caught on quickly. She ran back to where she saw one of the exits. When she got there, she kicked the door open and ran up through the umbilical.
"Maybe a mine will detach the ship." she said to herself. She pulled a timed mine out of her backpack, activated it, and threw it on the wall of the tube. She stepped back and the mine detonated. The ship was damaged, but the tubing stayed put. Quickly Jo radioed Elvis again.
"Elvis!" She yelled, "Elvis! I can't detach that tube! Can you take it out?"
"Peace of cake, Joanna!" Elvis said, triggering his showoff attitude, "Watch this!" Joanna couldn't see what he was doing, but she heard his ship flying toward the other. Then she heard him say "Uh oh."
"Watch what?!?" Jo snapped, "Will you stop playing around and SHOOT!"
"O-out of options." Elvis replied, "Joanna, brace yourself for impact!" Jo didn't know what he was talking about. She raced over to the window and saw Elvis backing up his ship, then turning around. His course was clear.
"What are you doing?!" She screamed over the radio, "Don't! Stop!! You'll make us all crash!!!" It was too late. Elvis crashed headlong into the umbilical, causing a strong jolt on Air Force One. The whole plane leaned forward in a power dive.
"YOU IDIOT!" She yelled, "I told you not to--UNGH!" her words were cut short as a heavy crate flew forward and hit her in the back of her head. Her radio fell off her ear and was crushed by a box.
Everything went black. Air Force One crashed in the Alaskan Mountains, along with the unknown craft and Elvis. Meanwhile, something happened in Joanna's mind as she rolled, unconscious out of the broken-down door of the plane. The worst thing to ever happen to a person. Something that will change Joanna's life, possibly forever.
Chapter 1
Awakening
Joanna awoke uneasily. The first thing she felt was a freezing cold surrounding her. She opened her eyes slowly, and discovered the source of the cold.
Jo was lying on her side, her face on the ground, half-buried in snow. She sat up and shook her tomboyish brown hair out of her face, then looked at herself. She was wearing what looked like flight attendant's cloths, which were torn and wet. She couldn't remember why she was wearing these cloths or why they were torn. In fact, she couldn't remember anything at all.
Slowly, Joanna got to her feet. Her whole body was sore, but her head was the worst. She guessed she must have been hit by something, or someone. She looked around. She was in a mountain range of some sort. In the distance, highlighted by the setting sun, was the wreckage of a plane.
"What is this place?" She asked herself when she found her voice, "And how did I get here? Uhh, my head hurts like hell..."she massaged her forehead again. Sore and shivering, she set off through the snow.
Jo walked for miles. Her already aching legs began to seize up. Her throat was parched and sore from the cold air. Finally, she fell over to rest. When she looked up, she saw something in the distance.
"What's all this?" she asked. She ran over to investigate. As she got closer, she saw a cave in the distance surrounded by men with guns. Something about there black and white-striped armor was very familiar. She got even closer. Soon, she was in plain sight of the armored guards.
Suddenly, one of them looked up.
"Hey, you!" he yelled. The others surrounded her, pointing their guns at her. Joanna's heart was pounding.
"Hold your fire." Said a voice. The guards lowered their guns and the owner of the voice appeared; a tall man in white with short blonde hair. Looking at him gave Joanna another feeling of deja vu.
"Who are you?" she cried as she backed away, hands in the air.
"I ask questions first, young lady!" he snapped in a deep, strict voice that ran a chill down Joanna's spine, "Who are you and what are you doing here?"
"I-I'm sorry..."Joanna replied, starting to cry a little bit, "I-I don't know how I got here...” much to her surprise, the blond man smiled.
"Forgive me, Miss Dark, I did not recognize you."
"How did you know my name?" Joanna exclaimed, now suspicious.
"You must be freezing. Come with me. I'll explain everything in the ship."
Joanna shivered with cold and fear as the blonde man put his arm around her and lead her to a clearing. When they got there, she saw a space ship that looked like it could have held three people. It also looked very familiar to her.
***
Elvis raced to the wreckage of the plane and climbed into the open door.
"Joanna!" he called, "Where are you?" he looked frantically around for her. He saw sparks flying further back. He went toward them. He didn't find Joanna, but he found something else; Joanna's communicator. It was crushed and giving off sparks. Elvis took it and ran back to his ship.
***
"Agent Dark, please report! Perfect Dark, come in! Agent Dark, can you hear me? Please reply!"
Daniel Carrington's attempts were futile. The only sound on the other side of the radio was static.
"Mr. Carrington!" yelled a high-pitched voice behind him. Elvis had entered the room.
"Not now, I'm busy." Daniel said.
"Sir, it's about Joanna!" Daniel put his radio down.
"You know where she is?"
"She wasn't in the wreckage of the plane, but I found this." Elvis held up the shattered communicator. Daniel's eyes widened.
Chapter 2
Joanna's Past
The blonde man helped Joanna into the ship and gave her a blanket. Although comforted by the warmth, she didn't want to let her guard down. Something about this man made her uncomfortable, like something she'd seen in a nightmare.
"Now." the blonde said as he sat down, "It's time I explained things. My name is Mr. Blonde. I am...an ally a corporation called dataDyne, run by Cassandra deVries. Sound familiar?" he added, noticing the puzzled look in her face, "They should, Miss Dark. Because you are an agent for us. You are the best of all of us.
"For a long time we have been rivals with an agency known as Carrington Institute, lead by Daniel Carrington, an evil man who wants nothing more then to control the world.
"A month ago we heard a rumor that there is an unknown craft at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean that holds alien technology like none ever seen. We immediately wanted to investigate, for the technology in that legendary craft may be the key to finally getting rid of Carrington and saving the world.
"But to reach this craft, we need a U.S. government deep-sea research ship, the Pelagic II. Our other ally, Trent Easton, has attempted to ask the President for the loan of the Pelagic II, only to receive some shocking news: The president has been replaced by a clone created by none other then Carrington himself. We sent you to find and kill the imposter. You went onto the Air Force One, disguised as a flight attendant(Joanna looked at her cloths again.)but before you could reach your objective, Air Force One was hit, and crashed, and that's where we stand. It seems you lost your memory either from the shock, or from the blow to the head you took upon impact."
Joanna sat there, puzzled. This couldn't be right...or could it? This just didn't feel right. She knew there was something more to this whole thing, but she couldn't put her finger on what it was. But….dataDyne….that sounded so familiar. Is this…..really true?
Even if it’s not, it’s all I have for now. Joanna told herself.

"You can't be serious!"
Velvet had just heard the news about her sister, Joanna.
"I am very serious, Velvet." Daniel said, "We have agents out there searching for Joanna. Right now, that's all we can do." Suddenly, the door to Daniel's office burst open. Jonathan, the second top agent in CI entered. He looked pale and sweaty, with his short light brown hair all over his face.
"What the hell happened?" he asked quickly.
"Air Force One crashed. "Velvet said, running her fingers through her shoulder-length blond hair; a habit she had when she was worried, "We can't find Joanna anywhere."
"Oh my GOD!" Jonathan turned to face Daniel, "How did this happen?" Elvis, who was standing next to Velvet, looked down at his feet.
"I guess it's my fault." he said. Everyone looked at him.
"What?" Velvet asked.
"Well...I...uh..." Elvis stammered. Then he took a deep breath and told them everything that happened during that mission. When he finished, he felt himself turn red as everyone glared at him.
"YOU CRASHED INTO THE OTHER CRAFT??!!" screamed Velvet, who had turned from pale to scarlet, "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??!! IT'S BECAUSE OF YOU, AIR FORCE ONE HAS GONE DOWN AND MY SISTER IS MISSING!!!"
"Velvet, Velvet, calm down." Jonathan held her back before she could do anything to Elvis, "Violence won't solve anything."
"Calm down?!" Velvet tried to get away from Jonathan, "My sister could be dead for all we know, and you want me to calm down???" The squabbling continued, then a beeping sound from Daniel's computer made the whole room go quiet. They all listened as the voice of Foster, agent and lab technician at CI, was heard.
"Mr. Carrington, our radars indicate that Joanna is in a neaby cave in the Alaskan Mountains. She is alive, and I think she's talking to someone. Wait...it looks like she's wearing a dataDyne uniform. That's odd. I think I can make out the other person from here...some man wearing a white suite. Blond. Looks like he's holding a gun, but I'm not sure. Advance further?"
"Negative." Daniel replied, "Just keep an eye on them and see what they do. I'll send Velvet and Jonathan right away."
"Roger that. Foster out." connection broke off.
"Wearing a dataDyne uniform?" Velvet scratched her head.
"Foster said she was with a blond man in white?" Daniel said, stroking his thick beard, "Joanna said something about 'blond guys' near the Air Base. They sounded suspicious. Velvet, Jonathan, you have five minutes to prepare for the trip. We're going to Alaska!"
***
Joanna stood and watched Mr. Blond ordering the other guards around.
"Trent, you stand watch of this imposter! Don't do anything else until I say! You two, stand watch at the entrance, and alert me if there is anyone suspicious!"
"What can I do?" Joanna asked.
"You're our sentry." Blond answered, "Take the gun, and keep watch outside. If you see any CI agents, shoot them." he handed her a gun, which she took and loaded. As soon as she was gone, Mr. Blond reached for his communicator.
"Blond to deVries. Our plan is going smoothly. Our 'friend' is perfectly convinced she's ours. We'll return to HQ as soon as we finish our job here."
