Monkey say, Joe!
Dec. 18th, 2005 09:44 pmEven in the absense of Orenda and
rinichan, the Christmas party was wonderful.
Heather gave me the scarf she started making for me 2 years ago when I was complaining how cold my face was every winter morning because I didn't have any good scarfs. It's a really nice scarf; it matches my coat, and it's nice and warm :)
Everybody loved their presents, yay! I swear, those guys are so hard to shop for!
There were many other wonderful, happy things that happened at the party. Mostly movies and gingerbread slates (we couldn't piece everything together to be a house...) and presents and cookies.
I really need to have
nandarou_life at the house more often. I feel like when we're in the house together, not around his friends (some of whom I'm really awkward around/don't get along with), he opens up more and I have so much fun with him. We actually cuddled last night. Damien and Jordi moved the couch out so there was a space in the back of the movie room to all sleep together. David invited me to sleep next to him, so I managed to squeeze in and lean on his shoulder, eventually bringing my arm completely around him. It was one of the best moments of my life...lying behind a couch with a warm body someone I love to snuggle under a nice warm electric blanket. But then David had to move; the Christmas lights were shining right in his face and he couldn't sleep. So then I was all cold and alone on a matress in the other room :(
not_the_pope made some very nice donations to the Saria Wants Stuff Fund"; Enya, Dashboard Confessional, and Barenaked Ladies :)
Also,
scruffycritter provided the funniest inside joke gag gift ever:
when I was about 4(?), I would see Joe a lot, especially on Wednesdays at the weekly gatherings that we used to go to all the time. He has a rather impressive impression of a monkey. Every time I saw him, the immediate greeting was "Margaret, what does the monkey say?" Eventually I caught on to this pattern. When I saw him, I would pip up "Monkey say, Joe!"
So as my Long Night present, Joe sent me a stuffed monkey from the custom teddy bear store, dressed up in a tuxedo, and when you squeeze his paw, it plays a recording of Joe making monkey noises. Mom has a recording on her digital camera of me opening this present, fidgiting with it a bit, then finding the noisemaker, making a bug-eyed face, then burrying my face in the doll and laughing myself to tears. The doll had a name that I can't remember off the top of my head, but we've renamed it JoeJoe JoJo, because we're sick that way.
School? What's that?
Oh. Right. The play's read-through is tomorrow...
No school. Yes sleep...I only got about 5 hours of it this weekend.

Her reaction was to giggle so hard to my monkey impersonation that everyone ELSE said "What's the Monkey say?" when I walked in the room.
The recording time on the Monkey voice was 10 seconds. That's a long time to imitate a money. So for the last four seconds it was basically, "What's the monkey say while he's throwing his crap at you?".
After I recorded it, while in the store, each person who heard it (at the very least) got a HUGE grin on their face. Most of the reactions sound like the one
The original name on the adoption certificate was "The Marmoset From Hell". Quite appropriate I dare say. :-)
