sagesaria: (That's not hard is it?)

I just saw Jumanji for the first time in years. And I'm fairly confident in saying that I liked it.

No appologies.

It's certainly not the best movie in the whole wide world, I can give you that, but I liked the concept. For some reason, the idea of games or stories affecting the mundane world is really cool to me. If it's done correctly.

That's why I refuse to watch the new movie by that writer, Zathura. From what I can tell in the trailors, they just throw in a random board game and do exactly the same thing as Jumanji only without a real interesting history or scariness behind it. In the beginning of Jumanji, they show a few englishman burrying a box with the game in it. That shows us enough about its history to theorise; witchcraft probably the best answer. As for this new thing...all it shows in the trailors is "Oooh, what's this? It's so shiny! Cool, a space game! Aww crap, it's real." No real signs of witchcraft or any sort of reason for the game's exsistence.

Not to mention, I still think Jumanji is pretty scary. Spiders, carniverous plants and stampeding animals beat science fiction horrors any day. A robot is going haywire and trying to destroy its creators. Ooooh, scary. I'm just quivering in my little boots. But when those bats come flying out of the chimny--*shiver*

And the clues aren't in rhyme in the new one, either. That's probably my favorite part of the whole original movie :)

But anyway, this is 8-year-old Nostalgia, signing off.

BTW: Kirsten Dunst was in Jumanji! Guess who she was! Guess who she was!

I think she was in "Little Soldiers" too, as (along with Sarah Michelle) the voice of
the Gwendie dolls.
