On Saria and "SPD"
May. 31st, 2008 10:27 amA lot of stuff about Saria's Sage powers is vague. All we know about it is that while Link was in his seven-year-coma, Kokiri Forest was at the mercy of lots of nasty monsters, and Saria was called by the temple in the Sacred Meadow, but when she went she got trapped because she couldn't really defend herself against the monsters there, and I suspect she even got captured, since you don't see her at all. Because of the evils in the temple, the awakening call from the temple couldn't awaken her powers. But when Link defeated the monsters there, her powers awoke and she remained in the Sacred Realm to seal Ganondorf away when the other Sages arrived. And aside from sealing Ganon away, nobody really knows what the Sages can do.
So I leave this up to a LOT of fanon and bs and interpretation. The Saria I play is still from child!Link's time, a little while after Link went into his coma. But because Ganondorf was here, her powers started waking up prematurely, because of the prophecy that states that the Sacred Realm sounds it's awakening calls when the world is overcast by evil. Which certainly has happened a few times at FH ^^;;;
A lot of the stuff I do with Saria's powers has to do with the idea of her being in tune with nature. She can manipulate plantlife (to a degree; she's still learning). She can't hear them speak like Kurama (and Marluxia?) though. I also work with the idea that this entity is just waking up, and Saria is a scared little girl who's trying to figure it out. Before she was kidnapped the first time, she kept having nightmares and cryptic dreams relating to the Sage's powers and history, and Ganondorf. She still has these nightmares sometimes, but nowhere near as often anymore, and usually only when they're triggered by the subject of this post: SPD
Sage Power Distress, or SPD, is what happens when her powers take a physical toll on her. Not just when she uses her powers and is tired out. Because she's so in tune with the natural world, when something happens to it, she basically gets sympathy pains; her body has trouble coping and goes through a 24-hour period of torture.
The first case of this was when Marluxia's greenhouse caught on fire. She had stomach cramps and felt dizzy and nauseous during the day and had to stay in the nurse's office for a lot of it. It was manageable to a degree; she would feel a little better and go back to class, but after a few minutes she'd feel sick again and have to go back. It only lasted a day, but she had nightmares again for a few days afterward.
She's having SPD again now, because of Scorponok destroying pretty much every plant in his path. Again it'll probably only last a day, unless he keeps this up longer than that. But the level of damage is making it worse; it's the same effects as before, now extra-strength and with an extra migraine. Yeah, she'll be sleeping with a bucket today ._. if she sleeps at all.
