Prompt: #32: Embarrassed
Fandom: Team Fortress 2
Genre: General

Notes: Based on some backstory I wrote for Scout. Ignore any inaccuracy to how the real world works...we're talking about a game that uses teleporters in the 1960's XD

"By the power vested in me, this court finds you guilty of 2nd degree murder. Given your age and your previous record of felonies, I hereby sentence you to military school for a term no less than three to five years."

Scout kept his head low, trying to hide behind his baseball cap to get away from the cold, angry eyes staring down at him and making him feel small and helpless. His fists stayed clenched in his lap. This wasn't fair. It just wasn't fair. The guy had it coming and now he was the one taking the fall.

Yes, he killed him. But it was out of defense. He was talking trash about his mother. He called her a whore. Scout wasn't going to let somebody call her that. He loved his ma. Of course...he didn't mean to kill him. He just wanted to teach him a lesson. Maybe the baseball bat wasn't the way to go.

"Sorry, little bro." his lawyer muttered, giving him a comforting pat on the shoulder. He didn't even look up, too angry to answer. It wasn't like he hadn't tried to get him out of this, but Scout couldn't help thinking he should have tried harder. He was angry at everything right now. That guy he killed, the judge, his brother, even himself.

He cast a sideways glance at his mother, sitting nearby. She was crying, leaning into the arms of her second oldest son, all of the boys around her, trying to comfort her. A few of them looked at their youngest brother with a sort of sad, angry, puzzled look. Even they, who were just as violent as he was in school, had never gone so far as he did.

The mother didn't spare him a look at all, which made his heart sink into the pit of his stomach. Her tears alone hurt more than anything that was said or done in this courtroom. He made her cry. He disappointed her.

"Ma, I'm--" he started to say, cut off when the officer took his arm to escort him out. She didn't even look up as he stood and they took him away. He gave up, turning his face away. He couldn't stand it anymore. He couldn't talk to her like that.

I'm sorry, Ma...
