Prompt: #84: Sad
Fandom: Flamingo Heights/Houshin Engi
Genre: Drama/Angst
Rating: G
Notes: A sad little thing that came to mind after Taiitsu's mun dropped.
The second bedroom had been empty two months to the day. Some wondered why Fugen, moving into town alone, rented a two-bedroom apartment. This was simply because he liked this particular apartment best. He could afford it alone, so there was no immediate need for a roommate, but the extra room proved useful when Taiitsu showed up unexpectedly. Now however, said fellow Juunisen was back in the Sennin world, Fugen was the sole resident of the apartment, and the bedroom was empty.
It was a few days until Christmas, and the solitude in the flat was beginning to weigh down Fugen's heart. Taiitsu was gone and his friends had gone home for vacation. To distract himself from feeling lonely, he spent the day cleaning. He had just finished cleaning the bathroom when his eyes fell on the closed door to the empty second bedroom. He felt a slight tug in his heart as he thought about what was beyond that door. Memories, associations, a sad, nostalgic story. In half a thought he set aside the broom he had been carrying, moving slowly toward the door. He had to close his eyes as he opened it, allowing himself to gradually look into the room.
It was as white and empty as he had left it after Taiitsu moved out. Nothing was inside save for the bed, neatly made with soft white linens. A sad, nostalgic smile came to Fugen's face. He padded slowly around the room, looking around as he rounded the bed, slowly sitting on the edge. It barely creaked under his weight, and it was just as soft as he remembered it. As were the sheets as he gently ran his hand over them. He scooted carefully to the head of the bed, sitting there, bringing his knees up to his chest.
It was then that he noticed something wedged under the bedframe. Curious, he carefully reached behind the mattress, lifting it slightly to ease the item out without damaging it.
It was one of Taiitsu's scarves. He must have missed it just as Fugen did when he left. Fugen held it gently, trailing his fingers over it. It was a nice scarf, warm and soft, very well made. No wonder Taiitsu loved it.
He hesitated a moment, then slowly bundled it in his hands, holding it close to his face. Closing his eyes he took a slow breath in, finding that indeed it still had Taiitsu's scent. He smiled a little more, caressing it a little and taking another deep breath. Slowly he opened his eyes again, blinking away a tear, and leaned back against the headboard, staring vacantly at the ceiling.
