Prompt #30: Drained
Fandom: Rune Factory
Genre: General/Romance
Rating: G
Notes: Felicity is my absolute favorite girl in Rune Factory and I just had to write about her. I could have focussed a little more on how tired she was in the last half, but that's what I get for finishing at 3:30 in the morning XP

Felicity was starting to regret denying Mr. Neumann’s offer to let her go home early. She thought if she sat down long enough between customers, she could make it through the day, but her body protested the whole time.

She began to worry that her condition was getting worse. It seemed like the longer she went on with this illness, the less she could do every day. She tried to ignore it, and still she stubbornly continued to work, but there was no denying her fatigue.

The world spun as she stepped out the door at the end of the night, street lamps seeming more like carnival lights as she shut her eyes, knees shaking.

A pair of hands caught her as she started to fall forward.

“Felicity!!!” a young male voice exclaimed, “Are you alright?!”

She opened her eyes, blinking at the worried face looking at her as he steadied her.

“You don’t look so good.”

She blinked again, slowly recognizing the boy. He was the farmer who moved in a few weeks ago. She had seen him from time to time, talking to her father the mayor or coming to the shop to order fodder.

“Oh…Mr. Raguna…” she muttered, “No it’s alright…I’m fine.”

“You shouldn‘t pretend nothing‘s wrong when there is.” Raguna replied, taking her arm gently, “It just makes people worry more. Come on, let me walk you home. At least that way I know you got there alright.”

Felicity blinked, looking up at him as he smiled warmly. A slight tinge on her cheeks betrayed her as she smiled back and nodded.

They walked in silence through the town as the sky got darker, Raguna never faltering in supporting her weight.

“I…haven’t seen you around lately, Mr. Raguna. Where have you been?” she asked slowly, trying to make conversation.

“Carmite Cave,” he answered, “I’ve been looking around down there; something seems off about it.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah. There are a lot of monsters down there. I found a huge daemon at the very bottom that I had to fight.”

“A daemon?!” Felicity exclaimed, looking back at him with wide, shocked eyes.

“Don’t worry. I was able to send it back to its world.”

“Weren’t you afraid?”

“Yeah…but I’m alright. No harm done.”

Felicity smiled again slowly. Finally they reached the mayor’s house, a single light still on for her when she returned home.

“Well, here we are.” Raguna announced.

“Thank you.” Felicity smiled at him, still holding his hand as she stepped up to the door. She paused, then shyly reached out and gave him a hug. She couldn’t see his face, but after a moment he returned the hug gently.

“Take care of yourself. I’ll see you tomorrow, ok?”

“Ok. Good night Mr. Raguna.”

As she entered the house, she spared one last glance back at him as he turned to head home. Funny, but in the dim light from the streets it looked like the back of his shirt was torn at the shoulder, and stained with blood.

“Don’t pretend nothing’s wrong when there is”, huh?
