Prompt #67: Nervous
Fandom: Flamingo Heights/Houshin Engi
Genre: General
Rating: G
Notes: Inspired by events of the rp, when Fugen was finally pressured into talking to Taikoubou about his crush.

The mind was a tricky thing. No matter how one would try to occupy it from distressing matters during the day, as soon as one relaxed for sleep that night, the mind would take advantage of the lack of distractions, leaving one tossing and turning for hours.

This was exactly what happened to Fugen. After a long day grading papers, putting together his class’s final, and watching a few movies, he found himself at 2:30 in the morning, sprawled out on his bed, too anxious to sleep. The past few days weighed on his chest; he never would have expected to meet, of all people, an empath. He could have gladly taken what she knew to his grave; he’d carried his secret love for Bou-chan for thirty years, what was another millennia? But when he found out that Kayura knew about it, and possibly even Kurama, he began to second-guess himself about it.

He let out a frustrated sigh, turning and climbing quietly out of bed. His feet landed in a pair of slippers as they touched the floor, and he stood and padded out of his room, making his way quietly to the kitchen.

His roommate could be seen in the living room, fast asleep at the computer, and he took extra caution creeping by, knowing that Taiitsu was a light sleeper. He padded into the kitchen, fetching a glass from the cupboard. His body was on autopilot as he filled the glass from the sink and sat at the table, thinking.

Ever since Prom, he thought long and hard about his relationship with Bou-chan. He told Kayura and Taiitsu everything. Every fear he had about confessing the truth. And they both said the same thing about it;

Tell him.

His chest felt tight at the thought. They both said it would be fine; that Bou-chan would understand. That they were close enough that everything would turn out in his favor.

He wasn’t convinced.

Bou-chan wasn’t the brightest Sennin in the world. Not as dumb as he acted, but there were many things he was oblivious to. Fugen would know; they had been friends for sixty years. He just couldn’t imagine him taking the news well.

But listening to Taiitsu and Kayura, a dear friend and one who knew people’s emotions, he wondered. Maybe it could happen. Maybe Bou-chan would surprise him.

Either way, they were right. He had to tell him. As much as he hid it, the secret was a little heavy on him. At least enough to catch him occasionally blushing when the two of them were together, or sitting in the dark at night daydreaming about the two of them together like a crushing schoolgirl. Telling him could potentially give the Sennin some relief. Maybe even a chance to live his dream.

He’d resolved that morning; he was going to meet Taikoubou the next day and talk to him. He was going to tell him the truth.

Which was now why he was awake at 2:45 AM.

Fugen sighed again, taking up his glass and standing up. Nudging his chair in with his foot, he crept back to his room, glancing one last time at his dozing roommate as he did.

Once in his room, he set the glass on his nightstand and turned on his stereo, the Fleetwood Mac CD that came on barely audible even to him. Listening quietly, he slumped on the edge of the bed and bent over, resting his hands on the back of his neck, hoping this wouldn’t keep him up all night.
