I've been contemplating getting an amazon wishlist, but I'm not sure. What are the pros and cons of such a thing, and how exactly does it work? Anybody?
For LN gifts for people we will often search Amazon for WishLists...in doing so we surprised a number of our friends by getting them exactly what they wanted. They had completely forgotten about the WishList and had no idea it was coming.
My mother hating shopping for me because she had no idea what I would like...once not_the_pope suggested WishLists, they became indispensible... she would actually nag me to keep my Amazon wish list updated.
I use them mostly the way not_the_pope does - except when it's holiday time... then I throw stuff on for my dad & his wife 'cause she'll get me crap unless I tell her exactly what I want.
I like them because they allow me to put something on there that I want but for whatever reason don't want to puchase at the time I find it. If I have $ to spend, I can go look at my wishlist, pick something, and buy it. Shopping's done, I can buy something and move on to something else. YMMV, of course.
I like 'em. I use mine partially as a wishlist in case somebody is suddenly overcome with an urge to buy me something but has no idea what I want. In real life, such people scan the wishlist to get a feel for things I might like and then surprise me (this is pretty cool, and I haven't gotten a dupe yet). I also use it as a way to keep track of stuff I haven't decided if I want to pay for or don't want to order until I can combine shipping, like not_the_pope.
