There are differences between the Who's version and the play version of Tommy. Not only in sound (though in our case we're trying to go back to the rock'n'roll sound), but also in some lyrics, and even in story. They may seem shocking to those used to the original Who version, but there isn't a lot that can be done about that at this point.
Just saying so that people who come in March aren't totally shocked. PLEASE try not to let that get in the way of enjoying it. I think they work. I see them as a different interpretation of the story.

Date: 2009-02-09 03:26 am (UTC)There is not and never will be a *right* way to play or perform something.
There are *good* versions and better and some that could benefit from practice or a re-examination of source material. But even a composer of something can learn from AND BE ENRICHED by somebody who performs their work and puts something of themselves into it, even if it's not what the composer may have *intended*. This is the magic of performance, and it is the blessing, not the curse of it.
Try to stop worrying about all of that blah blah blah blah blah. Everyone's a critic, but precious few actually DO.
Do, and do your best. Put yourself into your effort, and work as hard as you can to play and perform WELL.
Any computer program could do things "right".
I look forward to seeing you play GOOD, hearing you sing beautifully. No computer can do it as YOU will do it, and THANK THE GODS FOR THAT!
