I'll update with the full adventure of today's rehearsal later if I feel like it, but for now I'll just say thank GOD we're off tomorrow and yay for ice cream; I needed it.

For lack of anything better to say, imma list my roles so far in the production, likely to be updated at any time and under the cut in case people who come want to avoid spoilers and play Where's Saria during the show.

- one of the choir singers at the wedding, somewhere on stage right
- during the air raid, I start to run for cover then run back when a bomb explodes right in front of me
- head nurse in Sparks; I escort Tommy to the doctors and take notes and follow the whole sequence of tests

For your nurse role, make sure you practice looking "studious and compassionate". If you need any help, I'll run thru it with you, as I'm an expert at both...

Or maybe you should handle this yourself.

Actually, so far it sounds fun, and it's awesome you're getting some time in the lights out of just being one of a crowd. Gooooooo YOU!

My first priority on the nurse roll is keeping a straight face. I'm supposed to walk past the doctors after each test and they discuss the results with me (in pantomime). Since my castmates are all Theatre People, they kept whispering silly things to me as I walked by.

Well of course they are. It's what I was doing too!

That put a very subversive thought into my head.
One of the undercurrents in _Tommy_ was that the reason why he became so fractured was that event the people who should have been charged with *helping* him were inevitable just running their own agendas. Tommy didn't matter to anyone until he was famous, and even then, his "helpers" were just using him.

If you fail to keep a straight face, and are laughing and joking and horsing around with the doctors, with only the thinnest veneer of seriousness, it's the kind of thing that might just work. It's the sort of touch to make a throwaway bit a very powerful plot point.

This is the sort of thing that some directors hate but that some directors REALLY LOVE. It's worth asking about.

Just a thought.
Now go and practice your non-laughing.
