I'll list three.
1. People who mispronounce words despite hearing it correctly, or don't even try to pronounce it. Especially in foreign languages.
2. Redundant phrases like "ATM Machine" and "and etc."
3. The assumption that everybody and their mother knows or remembers something. Marc is guilty of this one a lot; he screamed at a contestant on Millionaire for not knowing what an Obi is, which *I* wouldn't have known either if I hadn't read Shogun that summer.

Date: 2009-01-27 06:40 pm (UTC)Oh man, practically everybody in my German class struggled with ich except me. Apparently that's a "hard sound to make". I finally just told them to immitate a cat hissing and they'd be making process.
My Spanish class had problems like that too. I wanted to smack everybody who pronounced the l's in "ella"

Date: 2009-01-27 07:13 pm (UTC)To be honest, my class didn't have a problem with ch, probably due to the fact we have a very similar sound in Welsh (though, my God, you should have heard us slaughter French for the ill-advised year we were forced to take it :|). But, since moving to England I seem to be surrounded by unilingual idiots who insist on saying ch as ck.
*cowers from your slaps of fury*
I'd probably be one of the people pronouncing Spanish ls wrong. :D You can't really blame me, as I don't know a word of Spanish past "hola!", and blimey, how languages did you take??!? haha

Date: 2009-01-27 07:25 pm (UTC)What bothered me was that no matter how many times the Spanish teacher said that two ls was pronounced like a y, everybody still pronounced them like ls
Haha, I only officially took German and Spanish. Don't remember a word of Spanish though XD and I don't know much Japanese except for a few words, and I know enough to know how to frikkin' pronounce "Hiroshima", the word that inspired that pet peeve.
