What has people's timelines looked like on getting passports? Has anybody gotten one or applied to one recently, and if so how long has it taken them?

Because if what I heard yesterday is correct, it's very quickly looking like Germany ain't happening for me.

And that's a really crushing thought. The first thing in a long time that's gotten me REALLY EXCITED, and I can't do it. Every. Fucking. Time.

While it normally takes quite a while, there are 13 regional passport agencies (http://travel.state.gov/passport/about/agencies/agencies_913.html) that can get it for you in 2 weeks or less. If that's not good enough, and you have enough money, maybe these people can help (http://www.visaexpress.net).

Good luck.

I once got mine replaced at a regional agency in Philadelphia. You need to stress your schedule and be firm about when you want the passport. I believe it costs a little more, too. In any case, even if this trip falls through, get your passport as soon as you can so you will be prepared for next time.

I've heard they're doing well at reducing the backlog, but if you need it sooner than spring, you're going to have to pay around $100 extra for expedited processing (or apply in person at the actual passport office as [livejournal.com profile] dmk suggested) Expedited processing is supposed to be 1 week, but I've heard it's running around 3 right now.

Both pay that AND got to the Passport Agency downtown, but you must prove that travel is already booked in order to qualify for the expedited process today. You will want to check if Europe has a limit on how new a passport may be - i don't think they do, as i know China requires a passport to be issued at least 6 months prior to entering their country.
