recap of the Zelda party
Sep. 6th, 2006 12:15 pmIt rocked, we know that much, right? Too bad I couldn't get more pictures :(
Damien showed up around 8:30 Friday night. He was supposed to help clean, but we were both pretty overwhelmed, but we got the main thing I wanted done; move the tables aside in the basement so we could use that space to LARP, if we had to. Which we did, by the way :( We didn't do much after that, though; Damien crashed immediately.

And I had to stay up and wait for Rowan and her family and Jordi to show up. THey were very late; Earnesto made traffic hell. Once they showed up, there was glomping and arrangements for beds, and then I crashed myself.
I was going to make my rounds of waking people up around 10, but I woke up at 8 and couldn't go back to sleep, and then Cory knocked on my door to tell me that he thought the toilet downstairs was overflowing. It wasn't, but it was still good to know :P. Giving up on sleep, I went up to take a shower, and when I came down, everyone was awake. We goofed around on my laptop for a while, then I started calling Heather and David to see when they were showing up. Remind me to invent that teleportation device soon; those two never show up at a reasonable time :P
While we were waiting, Jordi and I put up some red, blue and green streamers while Cory tacked "20 Years of Facts" posters that I made around the room. We set up snacks and plates and stuff, and made potions (kool aid). I thought I had one red, one blue, one green, but it turned out that I had one red, one blue and one pink. We claimed that it was a really wattery red potion; the herbalist wasn't feeling very well that morning.
Once we were mostly set up, Heather and Ben and David finally showed up, and we were able to get the show on the road. Things started, of course, with getting the Triforce symbols on everyone's hands. David and Heather got Power, Cory and Damien got Wisdom, Ben and Rowan got Courage, and Jordi was the chosen one. We had a big ceremony for her, and she got lots of spiffy prizes!

She also got Roc's feather and an ocarina, but I don't have pictures of her with it. After the chosen one's ceremony was done, had some drinks in the BEAUTIFUL pewter goblets that David brought, and we goofed around for a bit...

It's hard to see, but that's everyone holding up the Triforce symbols on their hands.

Now you can actually see people's Triforces. As you can see, David had Power, Corey to the right has Wisdom, and Rowan behind him has Courage. And apparently Power makes David's face all wacky.
You can also see Purr sitting in David's lap, dressed up in the Link costume I made for her :D

David playing his viola. I think he was playing along with the Zelda theme playing on my iPod.

Jordi fighting with duct tape. She was helping David cover the can of pringles that he brought to the party, so the lable would be hidden and we could claim that they were Gerudo cakes or something like that. Isn't Heather's sword in the corner just awesome?

David posing in his LARP costume.
Then we let people put in some raffle tickets before the Smash Brothers tournament.

Damien really wanted that treasure chest.
The Smash Brothers tournament was pretty fun. Jordi was one of the first players, since she's the chosen one, and she failed miserably, so when David was out of the game as well, he got her addicted to the Gameboy Advance version of Link to the Past.

Note: Jordi knows practically nothing about Zelda except what she's seen when we play. David knew the importance of educating her.
In the end, it came down to me and Ben. Heather kept saying that I was going to lose, and it turns out she was right...but not as miserably as she was saying. It pretty much came down to both of us with one life before he slaughtered me :)
After the tournament, I asked the gang to stay in the room for a few minutes while I set up the scavenger hunt in the other room. They played a little more Smash Brothers while I did so. I came back afterward and showed them the items they needed to find; 2 hearts, 3 pendants, and a piece of the Triforce. The winner would recieve the Master Sword. (I forgot to get a picture of the sword) We listened to the Minigame theme from the LTTP Sound and Drama CD(http://www.ganonstower.com/mp3/sad-2.mp3), and the hunt was on. It was fun to watch :D

In the end, it came really close between Heather and Damien. She won by one pendant :P
We went upstairs and I cooked up a tray of fried cukkoo (chicken tenders). While we were waiting, we had the raffle. That was a lot of fun because I actually used Ezlo (one of the prizes) during the drawing, bad-mouthing the party and being less than happy when he found out that he was being raffled off as well. Heather had to hold his beak shut lol
In the end, Damien won the treasure chest (goddamn you and your 21 tickets! lol) with the compas in it, Heather won Ezlo, and Jordi won the Mask of Truth.

About two minutes later, Damien locks the keys into the chest by accident. Doh!
We goofed around a little more, listened to music, did a little dancing...
And after we ate, we went down for the LARP.
Characters:
(David) Kusuma: Hylian mask merchant, very stingy and vain, unusually childish, doesn’t like small children, leader of the party, uses special masks in combat
(Damien) Saherah: Hylian swordsman, possesses a small amount of wind magic, silent and suspicious, rarely interacts with the others
(Rowan) Daria: Kokiri swordswoman, skilled at potion making and an excellent climber, though open space makes her nervous when she is high up, cautious and practical
(Heather) Sya: Hylian swordswoman, compassionate but naive, terrified of spiders
(Ben) Gradan: Hylian swordsman, always looking out for himself, sometimes irrational
(Jordi) Guenivere: Gerudo thief, wields a tiny dagger, money-hungry and proud of her profession.
(Cory) Limbo: Hylian archer, sixteen but young for his age, afraid of the dark
The party comes together and after quick greetings, they prepare, first by picking a leader. Somehow the party quickly agrees that Kusuma seems like a worthy leader. An act they soon regret, however, as this vote immediately goes to Kusuma’s pride.
The party treks forward, Kusuma acting as a tour guide more than a leader. Suddenly, mid travel, he turns into an octorok and playfully shoots a rock in the air, which hits Saherah. He is unharmed, but seems rather miffed, although he says nothing. Kusuma denies everything, claiming it was an octorok, not he, who did it. The party shakes it off eventually and continue.
After a time, they face a moblin in an open field, reared to attack. It is quickly outnumbered, however, and when it realises this, it falls to its knees and begs for mercy, offering a hint if they release it. The vote is unanimous to spare the monster’s life, and in exchange, the moblin tells them that to find the Triforce, they must pass three temples, each with an element of the Goddesses that they must prove their worth in; Power, Wisdom and Courage. Its part of the deal fulfilled, it wishes the party luck and flees.
Night falls, and the party sets up camp. Half of the party stays awake, either seeing no need, or kept awake by Kusuma’s obnoxious snoring. Seeing sleep isn’t an option, Sya stays with Limbo, comforting him in the dark until he calms enough to sleep. Meanwhile, the sharp eyes of Guenivere notice a wolf creeping by the camp, staring at them. Not wanted to get involved herself, she turns to Saherah, who silently goes after the wolf like she asked. After quite some time, he comes back, saying that the wolf was taken care of. Sya questions Guenivere about it, but she doesn’t say anything.
Morning comes, and Kusuma groggily suggests breakfast, but nobody has any food to spare. Hearing this, he throws a fit about being hungry. Daria comes by with some berries she found, and after some teasing, including trying to convince him to part with some rupees, which he refuses, she gives him some. Now on a full belly, but still groggy, Kusuma puts on his sandals and uses some magic from his masks to give himself a boost, at which point he dashes ahead, the rest of the party barely able to keep up.
As they take a break to investigate some discarded rupees, Saherah strays a bit from the party, and Kusuma mentions to the others that he doesn’t trust Saherah. Eventually they continue, soon coming across the Temple of Din. A voice welcomes them, telling them to use their strength to pass through the temple. Daria complains, but the party proceeds anyway. Their first challenge is a door behind a statue. With combined strength, they move the statue, opening the way to a cramped room. There is another statue, but it is too heavy to move, but then they find an open door ahead, which they enter. In this room, they find a wall of flame, with a key behind it. They contemplate this situation for a while before Daria discovers a rope dangling from the middle of the room. She climbs it and swings across the flames to get the key. She successfully grabs it, but the rope snaps from the heat, leaving her trapped on the other side of the wall. She panics, but then Kusuma changes into a goron, walks through the flames, throws Daria to safety and walks back. Sya complains that he didn’t do this sooner, but he shrugs it off. With the gaining of the key, they find a locked door in the last room, which they go through. As they enter the locked room, they hear a familiar squawking sound; two lizardfos block their path. They easily take them out, and they find a charm left behind by their foes; a charm that grants them all super strength for the rest of the temple. With this new strength, Saherah roughly shoves the statue in the middle room across the room, breaking it in the process, but opens the way to the final room. On the way there, Gradan finds a hidden room which holds an item called the hawkeye, incresing projectile accuracy. Limbo, the archer, takes this item. They find the final room, where a giant monster lingers. They attack, but the enemy isn’t affected by their blows. Limbo is the first to figure out the solution; he grabs one of the jars around the room and throws it, which hurts the beast. Catching on, the rest of the party scrambles for jars, killing the monster, but not before Kusuma and Sya take brutal injuries. The temple is cleared, just in time to set up camp.
Sya decides to stay awake and comfort the frightened Limbo, kept awake by the dark, while Daria stays up to make a potion. As she does, she notices a stalfos at the edge of the forest. She pockets her finished potion, reaching for her sword, but then another stalfos strikes her from behind, knocking her out. Guenivere, also awake at the time, sees the stalfos dragging Daria off, and panics to wake everybody up, but it is too late.
The sun rises, and Kusuma, who slept through the whole thing, wakes up, whining for Daria to get some food. They angrily fill him in, then start off on a rescue mission. Kusuma remarks that she probably went off to find more berries, and stays behind. Saherah and Guenivere decide to stay with him just in case. As the rest of the party goes out of sight, Kusuma starts to flirt with Guenivere, much to her dismay.
The rescue party finds the stalfos camp and quickly outnumber the three stalfos there, rescuing Daria and bringing her back to their camp. Kusuma cluelessly says that he knew she would be back, then complains that he’s hungry. To shut him up, Guenivere feeds him some berries, but a little later he throws up; the berries were poisoned. That night, sleep is hard to find among Kusuma’s whining about his stomach aching.
The next morning, Daria suggests that he eat a little bit of grass to settle his stomach, but he immediately rejects it, because it’s icky. He continues to whine about his hurting stomach, mixed with hunger, and in a surprising show, Saherah takes his hand and tells him where he can find some food. The party is suspicious, so Daria follows not too far behind. Suddenly, she hears terrified screams, and when she comes running, she finds Saherah over Kusuma, sword in his back. Saherah runs away as Daria sees him. She chases him, while the rest of the party comes running and finds Kusuma’s dead body. None of them liking him much, their first response is to loot his corpse for rupees. Guenivere takes all of the money, and as they sift through his supplies, a secret is revealed that explains a lot; Kusuma was really only a child, using an adult’s mask as disguise. Meanwhile, Daria has lost track of Saherah. With a murderer on the loose, the party proceeds with caution, Daria taking Kusuma’s place as the leader.
They come across the Temple of Nayru, where they are told they must use intelligence to pass; to complete the dungeon, they must complete a fractured stone tablet. Each piece of the tablet is guarded by a sphinx, which asks them all questions one at a time. Only Daria and Guenivere correctly answer the riddles given to them, but all of the stones are collected and the temple is cleared.
Night falls as they leave the temple, and the party sets up camp. Most of the party sleeps, even with the anxiety of Saherah possibly returning in the night. Sya, however, wakes up from a nightmare of being chased, tied down, and cruelly beheaded by Daria, just in time to see Guenivere stab Limbo to death and run off. Sya wakes up the party and announces that Limbo is dead. Daria honorably takes her fallen comrade’s bow, giving Sya her sword.
With strange dreams about, two traitors somewhere out in the world, and the party count diminished to three, tensions rise, and even the caring Sya grows distant as they come across the Temple of Farore. A voice tells them their task; they must cross through the temple’s main room, which channels their darkest fear to them. Should they fail, they will be consumed by the darkness. All of them successfully complete their challenges with flying colors; Sya amazingly facing her arachnophobia, Daria staggering nervously across the narrow beam with darkness below, and Gradan bravely facing the wallmaster with no fear in his eyes at all. The wariors are congratulated; the Triforce is theirs…if they can find it.
Only Gradan sleeps that night; Daria makes a red potion, while Sya just watches her suspiciously.
Morning comes, and the party is clueless on what to do, so they merely wander the dark world awhile. Suddenly they find the Triforce…as Saherah and Guenivere fight over it. The trio fights them, soundly defeating them both. Once the traitors are dead, Daria decides that she should claim the Triforce, since she’s the leader, but in a surprising change since her first days in the party, Sya is the first to turn her sword on Daria. She and Gradan fight her for the Triforce, but in the heat of battle, Gradan kills Sya himself before turning his attention to the leader. No longer having a good weapon to defend herself, she is quickly defeated.
Gradan claims the Triforce, but the Goddesses deem him unworthy of it; he did not pass the Temple of Nayru’s riddle, and he killed his own comrades to claim the Triforce; his greed destroys him, and the game ends.
There was more than that, including crappy camera work, me being the worst actor ever, Damien throwing a plastic spoon down my cleavage (we were using plastic spoons as projectile weapons for people who didn't have any), and everyone singing the Zelda theme in three different keys. The videos will come eventually, but I'm not sure when.
After the LARP, there wasn't really much. We played Smash Bros some more, we had "Zora pasta" (spagetti and meatballs), took some more pictures
I pose in my Priestess of Light costume, doing the Triforce hand symbol I created.
Tickling Jordi
TIckling Jordi some more as Damien chills.
And eventually we had the Triforce cake ceremony, which went pretty well except for everyone singing in three different speeds, and some in different keys lol. Video coming soon!
We only got to two of the many things I wanted on Saturday and Sunday before people had to leave; we watched Legend, because I heard that a lot of Zelda was based on Legend, and I can certainly see it, especially in the later games. We also watched Legend of Link, which apparently Damien didn't like. Oh well.
We also played Ocarina of Time Master quest, which was fun to watch, and when I didn't feel like watching I just played around with David; cuddling, pictochatting on the same DS, playing with his hair, and giving him a foot massage in reverse (he was sitting in front of me so I put my feet up on his back).
Next time: Videos of the LARP and the Triforce ceremony! Probably after I finish my project of uploading my DDR videos from back in 2004.
