Mearl fainted a few days ago. We're guessing it was a mix of things; it was hot, she foolishly forgot to bring water, so she was dehydrated, and she was already sick. Fortunately, she was able to get into a restaurant before fainting, so they contacted 911 pretty quickly, and she got to the hospital. She's ok now, but it was pretty scary to read about it.

But you know what the real insult to injury is? This is while she was waiting for a They Might Be Giants concert, which she was thrilled about going to because she's never seen them live. So she missed the concert because she was in the hospital.

Eris, you've really outdone yourself this time. *glare*

Why am I talking about it now when it was a few days ago, you ask? Because today was when I found out.

Remember hon, that Eris is a goddess which is really another word for
"parent". Gods and Goddesses, being on a higher plane of reality than
ours, operate in what to us, seem mysterious ways.

So Eris might have been actually doing Mearle a good favor in the form
of a "parental lesson".

Huh? You say?

Consider this. People don't tend to actually faint of dehydration
unless they REALLY fail to take care of themselves or are in an
extreme situation like a Shipwreck. One *could* say that Pennsic
fits the bill too, but I'm not one of those people.

Anyway, to get to that stage of dehydration in normal everyday living
one has to be really neglectful of oneself- most likely making a
Habit of it.

Eris loves her children, but dislikes seeing them taking bad care of
themselves. Had Merle fainted on an "ordinary" day, she might have
just written the incident off as just a "bad" day and continued her
life with no positive change at all. She may have already done this,
I don't know. But to have it happen on a "Special Day" means that
it's going to stand out in her mind as
SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED,
in fact, it was something that she could and should have prevented
thru the very most basic of human maintainance skills, like oh,
Drink water regularly BEFORE you start feeling bad.

Sometimes it takes a big incident to get the message across. I may
be wrong, but I'll bet anyone 23 cents that this was a message that
needed to be sent and was sent before but not listened to.

The fact that this happened on a special day with such dramatic con-
sequences also sends a message to the other children about what one
stands to lose if one takes improper care of themselves.

Go ahead and glare all you want, sweetie. Eris knows what she's doing
and this sounds like a case of good parenting to me.
