Notes: Triggered by a prompt I saw in a Harvest Moon community I saw; Festivals. Takes place at the summer Tomato Festival from Back to Nature. Once again could probably use a better ending.
In the end the Sheep team had won. Jack was sadly on the Star team, which lost the first round, but he enjoyed watching the rest of the tournament. As everybody started to clean up and go home, he waited for Karen, who had agreed to say hi after the games. He leaned on a barrel that still had some unused tomatoes in it, looking around.
He may not have won, but it was fun anyway. This was what he was missing out on in the city. It had only been about a month since he moved in and he was already finding himself liking this town.
"Hey, Jack~" a voice came behind him. Jack turned around to get a tomato in the face.
"That's for taking me out in the first match!"
Jack sputtered, wiping tomato juice from his eyes before laughing at Karen, who was now leaning over him in a mocking huff.
"Well at least your team made it to the semifinals, right?"
Karen laughed, slinging an arm around his shoulders.
"That's true."
Jack smiled, using the bandana around his shoulders to wipe the remaining splatters of tomato from his face.
"I didn't hurt you when I hit you, did I? I throw kind of hard."
"Nah, we all do this every year. It's just harmless fun."
She looked at Jack with a mischievous eye.
"Though, it's kind of a shame you took me out of the round so quickly. I was hoping to take you on myself."
Jack gave her a look back.
“Well, we have some tomatoes right here.”
“Is that a challenge, little boy?”
That was answered with a tomato in the face. Jack, carrying an armful of the messy fruits, grinned innocently at her, then ran for the other side of the square.
“HEY!” she grabbed an armful from the barrel for herself and ran after him as he lead her on merry chase, both of them laughing and yelling as they had their rematch.
