Fugen padded across the street to the shop, a wrapped bundle in hand. It had been a few weeks since he and Taikoubou had last talked, namely about the awkward and heartbreaking confession Fugen had made a few days before that. They promised that they were still friends and Fugen being in love with Taikoubou wouldn’t affect that. He intended to keep that promise, but had no idea what he would think or feel when he reached the shop.
He shook his hair back as he walked, a breeze rusting through it and causing the Bou’s Bounties sign to sway and squeak. With a peek in the window he found Taikoubou at the desk, as always, looking absolutely bored. Fugen’s smile brightened, and unlike last time when he hesitated to enter, he bounced happily to the door and pushed it open, clasping his bundle in one hand behind him.
“Boooou-chan~” he called cheerfully. Taikoubou’s head snapped up at the call and gave back his own goofy, happy-go-lucky grin.
“Fugen! What brings you here?”
“Do I need a reason to come visit?” Fugen teased lightly, holding out the package in his hand, “I brought you some lunch.”
At the mention of food Taikoubou suddenly lunged forward with a quick exclamation of "Gimme!" and grabbed the package from Fugen's hands. Fugen meanwhile seemed unfazed by his friend's sudden and rather rude actions, and giggled a little as the doushi started gobbling down the lunch made for him.
"Bou-chan is always hungry..." he teased, "It's amazing that you haven't gotten fat."
Taikoubou made a face at that, puckering his lips.
"Like you're one to talk, Fugen. You're practically skin and bones!"
"Oh? Well if it would make you feel better I can take your dumpling."
"Forget it!" Taikoubou pouted more, hugging the bento box to his chest protectively.
Fugen just smiled. Everything was just how it used to be. Bringing Taikoubou lunch, spending time together, the light-hearted banter. It was as if that awkward confession never even happened.
This was what he wanted.
