Prompt #93: Sympathetic
Fandom: Flamingo Heights
Genre: Angst
Rating: G
Notes: A faux-log I wanted to write once, but never got around to it. Set after Tsukasa left the city to find himself.

Midna felt a little guilty about entering the Seiji household so sneakily, but she didn’t really want to deal with the family so much as the little girl that lived there. She glided easily into the open window, knowing it to lead to Saria’s bedroom, and looked around.

Saria was there, alright, curled into a ball on her bed. She looked like she hadn’t moved from there in a while, and a depressing ballad was playing softly on the nearby stereo. Midna moved toward her, eying the girl sadly.

“Saria…?” she asked softly.

Saria wasn’t startled by the voice behind her, since Kurama had visited her not too long ago. In fact, she barely reacted, except to curl up a little more. Midna sighed, slipping a little box out from the subspace in which she stored things to carry.

“I brought you some chocolates…” she offered blankly, “I thought you might need them…”

“I’m not hungry…” Saria muttered back, nearly a monotone.

Midna sighed again at that, sitting on the edge of the bed. She recognized that behavior; she had been exactly the same almost a year ago.

“I know it’s hard.” she said, bringing her legs up to her chest, “I’ve been through it before.”

The kokiri didn’t answer, leaving them both in an awkward silence, before a broken voice spoke again.

“Why…?” Saria whimpered, “Why did he leave? I thought he was getting better…no, he WAS getting better…why did he leave…?” She curled more, burying her face in her pillow. Midna sighed, putting her hand on the girl’s shoulder.

“I don’t know.” she answered honestly, “I didn’t know him as well as you did. But he promised you he’ll come back, didn’t he?”

“…yes…”

“Link didn’t say a word to me…” Midna admitted, thinking back, ignoring the tight feeling in her chest as she remembered, “He’s done that to me twice now…he never said a word to me. Just one day…he was gone.”

She shook her head a little before continuing.

“I know it hurts. I’m sure you’re even angry at him. But he loves you, and he’s promised to come back. Do you trust him as someone who keeps his promises?”

“…he’s always kept his promises.”

“Then I’m sure he’ll be back. Nobody can say when…but he will.” of course, she didn’t really have a say on that. Link promised her that he wouldn’t leave without a word again, but he did. But Tsukasa and Saria seemed to have something special between them.

Saria didn’t say anything, but she slowly pushed herself up and sat up. Midna finally saw her eyes; they were red and wet. A sympathetic look came to Midna’s face and she extended her arms.

“Come here, dear.”

Obediently Saria scooted toward the imp, who pulled her into a hug. She was quiet for a few seconds, then tightly hugged Midna back, sobbing quietly into her shoulder.
