I promise, this will be the last nostalgia post about Buff and The Tape and all that. At least for a while. Then we'll go back to the present.
Warning: the last portion of this blog will turn me into a babbling 11-year-old PokeGeek with a fanfiction, so bear with me. There are some cool character sketches in there, though, so it'll be worth it :)
I mentioned a speech problem in the last post. Both Buff and my Mom replied with confused looks and "Speech problem? What speech problem?" I wonder why nobody noticed. Maybe because I don't really remember that much. But anyway, I explain...
I think this started when I was about 8 or 9. I don't remember doing it, but I hear it in recordings of my voice, and it bites me in the ass every time.
I think the closest word to describing this problem is stammering, but we usually think of stammering as just having trouble getting the word out, like Piglet's "Oh d-d-d-dear." But here's what I did; I would stop in the middle of a word, take a breath, and finish the word, "like thi...is." I also frequently repeated the last few syllables of the word I just said, "like what I'm doing...oing right now." I don't know why I did this, or when I stopped, but definitely know I did this.
On a side note, I once noticed that
starless_knight's stepbrother, Alex, was repeated what he just said under his breath. I don't know if he's still doing that, but I wonder if it's somehow related to what I did.
The final thing we got on The Tape before the camera went haywire was a Pokemon fanshow. It starred the two of us as the heroines; Rose(me) and Violet(Buff). This was back in the first season, when there were only 151 Pokemon. We used those, and our own Pokemon that we made up;
Cat: Purr-->Mewskers-->Mrow(I think that's how that one went)
Luna(yes, Luna like in Sailor Moon)
Dog: Bark-->Woof
Bunny: Hare-->Krishna
Turtle: Koopa-->Tortile-->Bowser
Hedgehog: Hedgette
Mouse: Squeeky(there were evolved forms, but I don't remember what they were)
(those are the only ones I remember)
When we did the act, I didn't really have any character concepts for the girls except for their names and that they were sisters. But after watching how we did these characters on stage, I started to write some fanfictions about them(don't ask to see these; I lost them in a comp remodel), and I have their characters figured out;
Rose:
Age: 12
Appearance: Short, red, unkempt hair, bluish eyes, plump face, broad figure, approximately 5"5
First Pokemon: Pikachu
Pokemon captured so far (in fic): Caterpie, Jigglypuff
Personality: Very "genki," for lack of a better word. Calm and collected in times of crisis. While sometimes she feels that she always gets the short side of the string (when she registered for Pokemon ownership, she wanted a Luna as her first, but it was already taken, while Violet got what she wanted right on the spot), she keeps an optimistic attitude and goes ahead in life's challenges, sometimes irrationally. Always carries a little red suitcase.
Violet:
Age: 12
Appearance: Shoulder length violet hair that covers her face when unrestrained. Blue eyes, thin, oval face, small figure, very slightly underweight, Approximately 5"9.
First Pokemon: Meowth
Pokemon captured so far: Bark(I think there was another one in the fic, but I don't remember)
Personality: Timid and camera shy. Easily embarrassed, and a little scatterbrained. Loves cute Pokemon. Quick to panic.
Other random trivia about it:
In The Video, the skit starts with the two of them watching a Pokemon battle on TV, and they're rooting for a Hitmonlee. In the fic, I enhanced that by making the Hitmonlee's owner a famous Pokemon master that both of the girls had a crush on.
In the fic, the girls encounter a Team Rocket; Bonnie and Clyde (Mom helped me pick the names)
The camera shy idea came from a blooper. We made a "commercial" advertising the upcoming Pokemon skit, and since there were only two of us there, we couldn't have someone look at the camera and go "Cut! I can't see Buff! Move over!" So when we watched the playback, all we could see was me, and she would occasionally say something off-camera. We couldn't go back and fix that, so Buff's idea was to cover that by making Violet camera shy. She even occasionally broke the fourth wall during the skit by "seeing the camera" during a shot and freaking out and hiding her face. Voila.
I might get back into trying to write this story. I may even use Rose and Violet in a different story, since I love these characters so much.
Since I've written more about The Video, I definitely must say that the second half with Buff is MUCH less embarrassing and more enjoyable :)
I think that's all I have to say.
We now return to our regularly scheduled Saria-chan posts.

Date: 2005-06-12 06:42 pm (UTC)I remember you doing that. I thought it was sort of like taking after Rowan, with her sudden random gasping.
