a little something I wrote on a sad day

Title: Untitled
Category: Original
Rating: G
Genre: Drama
Summary: .....I'm not really sure what this could be placed as, but it's about a woman's favorite figurine and a big accident.
Status: Incomplete, probably never will be completed

I wrote this in Creative Writing last semester after I had some personal experience with this situation that morning. I couldn't write more because I was really emotional about it, and the music we were listening to for the day was making me feel worse. But I still like what I wrote very much.

My ears were still ringing from the crash. Helen was still standing there, hands over her mouth, so shocked that what just happened still hadn’t sunk in. I stared at the figure on the floor.

She was her favorite; a hand-carved porcelain fairy standing in the grass, arms wrapped in ivy, blue flower-petal dress flared out gracefully. Now she was in pieces on the floor, her butterfly wings never to fly again. Her distant, daydreaming eyes gazed longingly at her own sandals, separated from her ankles a few inches away, but she didn’t have the arms to reach out and take them back. The flower that she once held so delicately now lay lonely under lost fingers.

Helen knelt down and picked up the chipped torso with shaking hands, cradling it as though she held a dead baby. I could see the tears starting to build up behind her eyes.

If I ever decide to go somewhere with this, it will be a very long time from now. I'm still trying to get another chapter of Karrah up for the class.
