"You sho' ye'll be alroyt?"
"Really, I'll be fine. Don't worry."
It was the next morning on the docks in the east part of town. The four of them were standing waiting for the next boat out of town. Ryder, Helen and Ameila were all leaving town, going to Faydwer to spend some time in the wood elf city, Kelethin. The last of the four was staying behind, with the bard guild.
The bardesses already said their goodbyes, offering tight hugs and well wishes, and now stayed back to give Ryder a chance alone. He smiled a little sadly at her as they waited, knowing that it would be the last time for a while that they would see each other. He caressed her face, pushing back the hair that she now kept down.
"Don' 'esitate t'wroyt t'me if ye need anythin', or jus' fo' the sake o' wroytin'. Won' be too 'ard t'foynd me."
"I'll write when I can." she answered, holding the hand touching her, "And I hope you'll come back."
Ryder laughed a little.
"O'course I'll come back! 'oo d'ye take me fo'?"
The boat bobbed past, settling in the dock.
"Ryder, come on." Ameila called as she and Helen boarded. Ryder looked back at them with a wave to mean he would be right there, and looked back at his beloved, holding her shoulders.
"Las' chance t'come with us." he joked, knowing too well that she'd made her decision, but offering anyway. She smiled a little at that, shaking her head.
"My place is here."
He nodded, keeping a little smirk on his face.
"Ye take care then...River."
It was going to take time for them both to get used to that name, but it was the one she decided on. Ryder leaned close, placing a soft farewell kiss on her forehead, against the tip of her scar. She closed her eyes and accepted it, not turning away in shame from attention being called to the mark. He held the kiss a moment, before slowly turning to catch up with the boat. River's hand rested on his arm, letting it slide out of her grasp as he moved away from her.
She stayed on the dock, close to the very edge when the boat departed, she and the trio waving goodbye until they could no longer see each other as the boat disappeared into the fog. A soft wind carried through her hair as the dock was silent. Strangely as the three of them were gone, she felt little sadness. She felt rather at peace. She knew she would see them again. She was where she could learn about herself. It might take a long time, but somehow she knew it would be worth it, and that it was worth it already.
She turned on her heels, slowly padding back to the bard guild house.
We will now hold a five drabble intermission, followed by a sidestory featuring our very own Ryder.
