Drabble #18
Prompt #87: Scared
Fandom: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Genre: General
Rating: G
Notes: I hated where this one was going so I cut it off early. Hope it’s still good?
The tiny Kokiri girl curled as tightly as she could around herself as she huddled in a corner. She must of resembled a frightened rabbit, quivering and watching her surroundings, ready to run at the slightest movement.
Saria began to question why she came. The forest had been diminishing in health and safety, and somehow she felt that this temple, long abandoned and unreachable, was the source of the troubles. And with that feeling, along with the distressed cries of the spirits of the forest, came a desire to help. So she came to the temple, somehow finding a way to reach it. And when she arrived, she was confronted with angry, hungry wolves that snapped at her heels, giant spiders that menaced her with their poisonous fangs, living skeletons who attacked her with rusted swords, and worst of all, a quartet of ghosts who chased her and stranded her on the bottom floor. They had cut off the lift that brought her there, so now she was lost, trapped, and terrified.
The echoing laugh of those ghosts lingered in the room again and Saria hugged her knees tighter, hiding her face.
“Link…” she sobbed, the only thought that could make it across her mind, “Link, where are you? Help me…I’m scared, Link…”
It had been the same for the past seven years. Whenever times were bad, she would think of Link. She would always look to him when she needed help. But for the past seven years, he wasn’t there to help.
Clinging to her arms and keeping her head low, still shaking in fear, she couldn’t help wondering where Link was now. The last time she saw him was when he returned briefly to see her in the Sacred Meadow, when she taught him her song. She thought about how much he’d changed in that time. It was as though in his few days away from the forest, he had grown up. He was strong, brave determined.
Suddenly a thought crossed her mind with those memories. She lifted her head, blinking the frightened tears from her eyes.
He wouldn’t want me to give up now.
Taking a deep, shuddering breath, she rose slowly to her feet.
